This is a day of contrasts...
We woke in anticipation of an announcement from Regent regarding the future of this world cruise. Everyone seems anxious, from the guests to the crew, and each with their own set of concerns. Fremantle/Perth marks the end of our Australian segment and we dock there, with an overnight stay, on March 18. If the cruise is going to come to an end, this port would be the logical place to stop. We could all find flights home, albeit very long, but it would be do-able.
After Perth, many ports are closed to cruise ships and we have no idea where we will go or how many sea days are required to get there. Realistically, we could be steaming through the Indian Ocean and beyond for 15 days or more, trying to find a place to land. Guests are pouring over maps, charting suggested routes. There's a camp hoping our new route takes us to Africa before crossing the Atlantic to North America...while others want to back track our way to San Francisco.
In this very remote place in the world, we feel far from the coronavirus, toilet paper hoarding and political ads. That's both good and bad, because we know we must go home. The question of how and when is an unanswered question that nags us. Coupled with the nightmare of the US stock market, we're anxious. We had two choices today: allow the angst to fester or get on the tender and take our tour on Kangaroo Island. I am very happy to say, we made a great decision.
Kangaroo Island is a magical place off the coast of mainland Australia. It's probably inhabited by more kangaroos and wombats than people and it's beautiful! Today's weather was perfect with the sun shimmering on the clear, turquoise blue water.
For a child who was raised in Detroit, in a house that was locked down in fear, it was quite an achievement for me to don a life jacket, step into a pontoon boat and straddle a bench like a cowgirl before zooming off to see dolphins and sea lions. It was exhilarating! We were rewarded with curious sea life that stared at us and teased us with their acrobatics. We marveled...we laughed...we let the sun shine on us!
A day that began waking in anxiety, is closing in peace. Kangaroo Island had never been on our itinerary until the coronavirus changed our course. However, today was the epitome of my late Mother's often used saying... “Everything works out for the best.” As her words echo in my head, she was right again!

I love your pictures and I love your attitude. Whatever way it works out, it seems like you had an amazing adventure. We are booked on the 2021 and can only hope the the corona virus and the stock market will have massively improved, or at least stabilized, by then.
ReplyDeleteI love your posts, photos and attitude too. Hope Regent communicates quickly as to what will happen to the WC. Africa would be very exciting! Let us know when you do.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy looking at the pictures but the Dolphin picture and the blue of the water is breathtaking--love it!
ReplyDeleteAs I read thru, the same thought you had about your Mom philosophy came to mind--things happen for the best reasons but sometimes we can't see it right away. Time will tell where the current circumstances takes you all next...but know that you all are in our constant thoughts and prayers for a safe and exciting journey! Keep that positive attitude---when life drops a lemon on your lap, you make lemonade and flavor every sip of it. Blessed journey to all!
I have been reading your blog from the start but will respond for the first time today due to your wonderful report from Kangaroo Island. The world is uncertain everyday. I woke up three years ago to a mild heart attack. I did not sulk away to be a hermit, but have tried to improve my health and do more with the life I have. Your optimism oozes from this blog and make me even more determined to do more. In our lifetime we have survived the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf Wars; the swine flu, Hong Kong flu and SARS outbreaks. Five, ten years from now there will be other "crisis". That will not stop us more than the current "crisis" I will continue to be, like you, a glass half full person. Enjoy your cruise, keep uplifting us and may God bless you, your family and our Country.

I love reading of your adventures. I am sitting here right now 9 days into knee replacement and your blog is like a breath of fresh air to me. Glad you made the decision to get off the ship and see the island. I hope you can complete your journey with as little worry as possible. Enjoy every minute of it! Maura
ReplyDeleteMarcia: I have loved your pictures and your narrative. What is happening to the world cruise now? Regent said they are cancelling or terminating all cruises as of today until April 11. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteHi all, I have seen comments from people who have already received a loan from Anderson Loan Finance. I really thought it was a scam and applied for a loan based on their recommendations because I really needed a loan. A few days ago, I confirmed on my personal bank account the amount of $12,000.00 USD that I had requested for a personal loan with a rental percentage of 2%. This is really good news that I am satisfied with and I advise anyone who needs a real loan and is sure to repay the loan to contact them by e-mail.
ReplyDeleteThey can lend you a loan!
