Along for the Ride

In an instant, we went from a sweltering 99 degree day to weather of biblical proportions. The wind violently shook the ship, and us, as we sat near the pool enjoying an afternoon game of Scrabble. A gale whipped the deck into a frenzy, dashing Regent's plans for a stunning sunset sail away out of one of the world's most beautiful harbors. Instead, from the port of Sydney, we tossed and rolled as a gale pushed us out to sea.

Today we've had gray skies, strong winds and very cold temps, but none of this diminishes the wonderfulness of our New Zealand ports and Sydney. Wellington rolled out its welcome wagon on a perfect, blue sky day. Kiwi's everywhere offered directions and inspiration that led us to a bright red cable car for a ride up to the most beautiful botanic garden I have ever visited. It was a meandering walk down a path that took us past vistas, flora and fauna that elicited exclamations from me at every turn. Wow. Just. Wow! Everything about this day was perfect, from the company of our friends, to the gardens and especially to the Uber driver who picked us up at the rose garden and drove our weary group back to the ship.

While we always enjoy visiting Sydney, it was Wellington that dazzled us. In my opinion, New Zealand should be on everyone's bucket list. It has everything from big cities to charming art deco towns to mud baths and thermal pools. The real draws are the warm, kind people in this diverse, beautiful country and the rich Maori culture

Plan to visit this part of the world, but do wait for the coronavirus to run its course. No one on our ship is ill with this disease, but none the less, it is affecting all of us. Our population on board has dwindled and I'm guessing that after Perth, the only guests remaining may be the world cruisers. There may be more itinerary changes once we set course for India and Italy. There are no crystal balls for reading the future of this cruise, however, we are relying on the experience and wisdom of Regent to make this cruise safe and interesting. The rest is up to us and we are still, happily, along for the ride.

Fun ride up the mountain!
Look out point at the last cable car stop.

I hope you like gardens because are am sharing my favorite photos from our trek down the mountain !

Thank you for the warm welcome Sydney! View from our verandah!

  1. Amazing gardens! But wondering...where is the picture of the mud bath?

  2. Breathtaking Hydrangeas, wish ours could bloom that blue-purple color too-- but it takes lots of pine needles or acid fertilizer to get them to turn blue-purple.

The picture of Sydney from your veranda is a dreamy sight.

I have read that New Zealand Art Deco buildings' treasure are the envy of the world next to Florida (USA). Their art deco buildings were the result of an earthquake tragedy (1931c)--interesting story to read—--it can be found online.

It would be interesting when Regent gets to India –but more so, to Italy (?!)

Looking forward to your next adventure across the sea!
